Tweaks and Fixes
May 9th, 2007In an effort simplify WikiVotr for users that aren’t familiar with social bookmarking websites, I made a few temporary notes for the Popular and Upcoming sections to remind users how WikiVotr works. Most users I’ve communicated with have no idea that articles first appear in the Upcoming section and then are promoted to the Popular section on the front page with enough votes. The notes serve to remind people of this without them having to read the Help Center, and it reminds users that they have to vote and activately participate to help promote good articles.
I also fixed a problem I was having with a feature I built that tells you how many new comments have been made since your last comment on a particular article. To use this feature, go to your Profile and view the Commented tab. If any new comments have been made since your last comment, you will see a caption to the right of that article’s title that says something like “3 New Comments.” This feature is a quick and easy way to keep a discussion going about a particular article.
There were also some other minor fixes, such as the article title linking to the Wikipedia article in the story view page instead of back to itself, and changes of wording in the Help Center and Welcome pages. Hopefully this will clear some things up, assuming you actually read them…
I appreciate your feedback, so keep it coming, and keep voting!
